Teleton Mexamerica

The Telethon in Mexico is an organization (since 1978 ), begun in 1997, in which, through a television and radio broadcast over 24 hours, trying to raise money to help the creation of centers children's rehabilitation (CRIT) for children with different disabilities. Mexico's proposal arose from the initiative of Fernando Landeros . The Telethon in Mexico is produced by Televisa with over 600 Mexican media and foreign, as well as more than a hundred commercial firms that sponsor the event. The mission set for the telethon is "providing knowledge of physical disabilities, giving a strong message about respect, equality and support for people in these conditions."
Recent events have lasted about 30 hours, but since 1997 has begun the first Friday of December. The last Telethon was held on 2 and 3 December 2011 and has always been viewed as "a project of national unity where Latinos and other Nationalities have the opportunity to meet and work for a common cause." ​Until 2003 the last stage of the event had been marked by a concert at the Estadio Azteca , since then has changed venue, in 2004 and 2005 was in the Zocalo of Mexico City in 2006 took place in the Foro Sol in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 was taken to the National Auditorium .

In addition to creating CRITs around the country, the CRIT System and University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) signed an agreement in 2000 to create two degrees dedicated to the training of professionals capable of working with children in CRITs and allowed the creation of the Telethon Institute for Advanced Studies (ITESUR) located next to the first CRIT built. ITESUR is the only university in Mexico to confer degrees in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy .
